All DT Image Surfaces are supplied as a white front surface to project onto and a black rear surface that increases contrast and removes light bleed. We believe that removing the light bleed is an absolutely critical element of the overall solution given that it decreases contrast and can easily lead to a double image being visible behind the screen.
It is often suggested that simply painting the area behind the screen black will serve the same purpose to address light bleed, however this is simply not the case. Unless special paints are used they retain reflective properties and do nothing to address other surfaces that are behind the screen - anything from speakers to metal brackets or even electrical items like power outlets or wireless access points.
With the increasing light output of modern projectors, this light bleed issue is only becoming more important to address.
Our testing lab has black fabric walls and the images below show clearly how much light bleeds through competitor solutions.
This image shows an "internet favourite" 4K woven image surface. Comparing the direct projected area above with the light bleed makes it clear exactly how much light passes through.
This image shows a market leading micro perforated screen. In this case the test pattern can be clearly seen on the wall behind - in reality its an almost exact double image as the light passes unimpeded through the micro perforations.
